Class Details:
This 5-week course is designed for dogs over 6 months old who are in the early stages of training. The curriculum is similar to that of Puppy Essentials, but with a stronger emphasis on proofing behaviors. While there are no interactive play sessions, the controlled environment offers valuable exposure to other dogs, enhancing your dog’s training experience. There are no prerequisites for this class, but dogs with a history of aggressive or highly reactive behavior are not eligible.
Each week, we will focus on three key behaviors or cues, including:
Release cue
Proofing basic cues such as sit, down, and stay
Layering in distance, duration, distractions
“Look at Me”
Discussion of dog-dog greetings
Hand targeting / Touch
“Leave It”
Place
Leash manners
Heel
Polite greetings (not jumping)
Discussion of the importance of enrichment, with examples
Preventing or recovering from resource guarding
Recall
Whether your dog is learning these skills for the first time or needs a chance to refine them, this class provides personalized instruction to meet their needs.
What to Bring:
Treats or rewards for your dog
Current vaccination records
All family members are welcome and encouraged to participate!
A text message and welcome email with preparation details will be sent approximately one week before class begins.
Policies:
No refunds or credits will be given for missed sessions. However, an email summary of the skills covered will be provided. If North Star cancels a session, a makeup class will be scheduled.
