AKC Canine Good Citizen Prep *Coming Spring '25
Location: Community Room of the Town Offices at Whitefield, 56 Littleton Rd. Whitefield, NH
Time: TBD
Dates: TBD, Spring ‘25
This 5-week class is intended for dogs with a solid foundation of training. If you are interested in pursuing a Canine Good Citizenship title, training a therapy dog, or simply want to prepare your dog for a more public setting, this class is for you! The final class will include the optional CGC test. Dogs in this class must be able to maintain focus in the presence of other dogs (of course we understand they aren’t robots!), and know the basic cues such as sit and down. We will practice acceptance of strangers, sitting during greetings, husbandry, loose leash walking, walking through a crowd, sit/stay, down/stay, recall, behaving politely around other dogs, staying focused while distracted, separation from owner, and more.
Don’t forget to bring treats for your pup, and a current vaccination record! While treats are encouraged during training, they are not allowed during the CGC test, per the AKC rules. Only flat collars or harnesses are allowed during the test as well. (No face halters, prong collars, etc.)
Family members are invited (and encouraged) to attend. You will receive both a text message and a welcome email about a week before class begins with all the information needed for you to be prepared.
There are no credits or refunds for missed sessions. An email will be sent that summarizes the skills we covered. If a session is canceled by North Star, there will be a makeup class.
